A Sydney dad who lost his hands and feet to deadly infections says he may be forced to live away from his eight-year-old daughter because of errors made in a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) report, 9 News reports.
Jason Miller has been at Mona Vale Hospital for the past 12 months after developing sepsis from a sore throat while flying home from a holiday in the PhilippinesIt was Mr Miller’s plan to move into NDIS-approved housing in Mona Vale with his daughter months ago, but he claims errors in a health report and “time poor” providers have thwarted the plan.
He claims the report, made by an NDIS-approved occupational health provider, overstates his ability to do things such as getting himself to the bathroom, cooking and even brushing his teeth.
“It makes me look like I could go for a jog,” the 49-year-old, who goes by the nickname of Buddy, told nine.com.au of the report.
“I shuffle and I can roll but that’s not a lot. I can’t put my legs on by myself… They shrink a bit (during the day) and I need help to put more socks on. Thankfully I have friends who can help.”
A spokesperson for NDIS told nine.com.au Mr Miller currently has funding for fully accessible Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) provided in his NDIS plan.
“The NDIA will continue to work with Mr Miller to ensure he is able to access appropriate accommodation and other disability-related supports he needs,” the spokesperson said.
